We encourage you to bring your teenagers to BACA events, where they can hear the some of the finest singers in town doing great songs from the American Songbook and contemporary material. But unless an event is explicitly intended for families, please leave children under 12 at home. What is cabaret? Cabaret is a form of entertainment that features live performances by singers in small clubs and other settings. The particular appeal of cabaret is the intimate relationship forged between performer and audience in the act of presenting the song. What kind of music can you expect to hear at the showcase? Cabaret performers often focus on the "standards"l of Tin Pan Alley, their European equivalents and showtunes. Cabaret songwriters of today frequently write in the same style. However, don't be surprised if some numbers presented by our songwriters reflect the influence of jazz, blues, country, pop, Latin and other genres tapped by today's cabaret composers and lyricists. About BACA: BACA is the only member-based arts organization in New England dedicated to the support, promotion and advocacy of the art of cabaret. In addition to producing showcase events throughout the year, BACA distributes Boston Cabaret, an online newsletter; publicizes weekly open mikes in the Boston area; issues a continually updated, comprehensive calendar of cabaret shows; administers a cabaret discussion email list and sponsors periodic workshops and master classes by leading performers.
